Hakim Mohammed Said was born on 9th January 1920 in Delhi. His ancestors migrated to India from Kashghar, a city of Turkestan. His father, Hakim Abdul Majeed, also belonged to the profession of medicine and due to this Hakim Mohammed Said got a great amount of inspiration from him. He became a hafiz of the Holy Quran at the age of nine years. He completed his education, and training in tibb, from Tibia College, Delhi.

On 9th January 1948, he migrated to Pakistan. Possessing an ambitious personality, he strove not only to impact health-care, but also to improve the educational scenario in the country. His focus was on the coming generation – the ‘Naunehal’. He laid the foundations of a great institution – ‘Hamdard Pakistan’. He established ‘Hamdard Tibia College’, which was inaugurated by Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah on 14th August 1958. He published many useful magazines, like Hamdard-e-Sehat, Hamdard Medicus, Hamdard Islamicus and Hamdard Naunehal.

In June 1985, he added another gem to those existing. He established ‘Madinat al-Hikmah’ – the city of science, education, and culture – housing Hamdard Public School, Hamdard Village School, and Hamdard University, as well as the library ‘Bait al-Hikmah’. Hakim Said also wrote many religious, educational and cultural books. He died a martyr’s death on 17th October 1998.
